House signs off on 10 day 2016 Florida Sales Tax Holiday

The Florida House has passed a sweeping tax cut package that could give Floridians several Florida Sales Tax Holidays. 2016 Florida Sales Tax Holiday expected as well.

The House approved the bill by a 96-17 vote. It heads next to the Senate, but Senate Republicans so far have not said how much in tax cuts they are willing to support this year.

The House bill (HB 7099) calls for a 10-day, back-to-school sales tax holiday, as well as one-day sales tax holidays on the sales of computers, cellphones, rifles, tents and fishing supplies.

The biggest part of the House sales tax package would reduce the tax charged to businesses that rent property.

Gov. Rick Scott has pushed the Legislature to cut taxes by $1 billion this year. The House package would only cut taxes by $350 million in the first year, although it would add up to nearly $1 billion over a two-and-a-half-year period.
